THE SALOON – ARTISTIC PROCESSES IN DIALOGUE

Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art 2009 aimed to investigate the artistic dialogue as method. The Biennial artists and their fields of interest constituted the starting points for in-depth dialogues.
The Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art is committed to exploring new ways of mediating the works presented in the Biennial to local, international and Nordic audiences. The 2009 Biennial investigated its’ thematics What a Wonderful World further through The Saloon, a series of artist talks and dialogues during five days, October 14-18. The Saloon was a critical programme inviting dialogue and participation from a wide public as well as arts and cultural professionals in order to engage the whole knowledge base that this Biennial seeked to represent.The seminar programme was developed in close collaboration with some of the artists participating in the Biennial. Kutluğ Ataman, Rosa Barba, Tim Etchells, Mats Hjelm, Jörgen Svensson, Fiona Tan and Alexander Vaindorf presented their work and was in dialogue with a partner and commented by a critical intervenor – methods supporting their ability to function like guides, exploring and locating their practices and processes.
